Hello Arancia families!
October is a busy month for Lower Elementary students! Today I introduced the much-anticipated Halloween Heroes sheets to the children along with some directions. Here are some highlights for you to keep in mind when working with your children on this:
- Children must choose a hero that is no longer living and has made a significant contribution to humanity. In addition to the well-known heroes, I offered the children an idea to find someone who may not be as well known. That way we can bring their hero to the surface and we can all learn about him/her!
- All work on halloween heroes will need to be done at home. This would be a perfect opportunity to take a trip to the library with your child.
The facts are due October 20th. If your child is fairly new to writing, please feel free to have them work on it on a lined piece of paper and you can help them with the writing. If this is the second or third year your child has done this, please encourage them to find more than the minimum facts. - All children will present their heroes on Wednesday, October 25th in the morning. They will need to come to school dressed as their hero that day! It surely is an exciting day. Please make sure they bring an extra set of clothes as they will be changing out of their costumes after the parade for the school.
- It is very likely your child will be nervous about their presentation. It is highly encouraged, but not required, that your child memorize their facts and speech. Please encourage them to practice in different situations at home and with your extended family/friends if possible. I talk about nerves extensively in the classroom, but if you need some extra pointers feel free to reach out.
This is sure to be a fun and exciting event! I will be recording each child’s speech and you will have an opportunity to view you child’s presentation during our parent/teacher conference. Please, no parents allowed during the actual presentations.
In addition to the Halloween Hero work this month, be sure to mark your calendars for our next social on Friday, October 20th, from 3:15-4:15pm. The children are super excited to share their work with you.
As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Have a great rest of your week!
