Arancia News 5-7-18

Hi Arancia families,

And just like that, it’s May. Whew. Our classroom is bustling with busy bees ready to take on whatever our classroom offers. It is so refreshing to experience this every single day. The theme we’ve been working on since I’ve been back is intentionally making the choice to do the things we avoid and don’t naturally gravitate towards. For some this is math or completing a research project or reading or writing. We have talked a lot about when something gets hard, what we can do to push through those difficulties. We also talked about the benefits of feeling frustrated and unsure about our work and that those feelings are often an indicator for a learning and growth opportunity. If, parents, you could be a fly on the wall in our classroom, you would see so many glimpses of this awareness in our room. It’s pretty neat.

On another exciting note, we are going ahead with our last classroom social on May 18th beginning at 3:15pm. You probably already heard about this but in case you didn’t, the Arancia community has committed to presenting a play of the book “Green Eggs and Ham” on this day, so you are in for a real treat! You may be thinking, “Wow, that’s pretty ambitious! You’re doing a play in two weeks!?” The answer is YES and we are so very excited about it! So please be sure to clear your calendar for that afternoon and come enjoy a wonderful end of the year celebration with a play put on by your children.

Of course, with a play in two weeks comes a lot of hard work. We are going to meet on Monday and divvy up the tasks needed to complete everything. Some of these things will need to be done at home, so I may be asking for your support in constructing some of the props if possible. For those that volunteer, I will send home a quick “homework” sheet that says that they need, for example: costume specifics, prop construction, etc. Everything will need to be in by Monday, May 14th so we can spend that whole week practicing and preparing.

We are so excited and can’t wait to share this with you! Let me know if you have any questions.

Have a wonderful rest of your weekend everyone!
