Since being back in the classroom, I have noticed how well many of the children are doing with toileting.
To help with toileting at home for those of you that do not have hardwood flooring, Pull Ups are a great idea when used as intended and not as a diaper.
When putting children in Pull Ups, remember that their purpose is to function like underwear. Bring children to use the toilet frequently (we take the about every 45 minutes to an hour), and point out when the Pull Up is wet so that it can be changed right away. If wet, allow children to help themselves get changed unless needing help with a bowel movement.
When changing your children, practice having them stand up and not lay down. As adults we do not lay down to clean ourselves, so we should model to the children what they will experience in normal social settings.
Allow your children to pull their Pull Ups up and down on their own so that they get plenty of practice and can do this independently.
I know it is easy and less time consuming for us as parents to do everything ourselves, but trust that your child is capable and able to help themselves.
