Hi Arancia Families,
This is a pretty long message, so please take your time in reading through this; there’s a lot of goodies!
New Classroom Assistant Alex Amaral!
We welcomed our new assistant this past Tuesday, and the children were thrilled to meet her. Alex joins us with a diverse, exciting background and she is ready to dive into a new role. She writes:
“Hi my name is Alexandra Amaral, but everyone calls me Alex! I love any form of art, especially painting! I have taught an all ages paint class at Camp Sacramento in South Lake Tahoe, where I have been working for the past three summers. I moved here from Rhode Island in 2015 and I am loving all the new places and people I have met. Back on the east coast I worked at an animal hospital, which was a wonderful experience. I also showcased my paintings in a couple of galleries. Along with art, I am passionate about music and the outdoors. I am so looking forward to getting to know everyone and growing with Bergamo Montessori School. I have already learned so much from the teachers and the students! Thanks for having me!”
Alex will be on the playground with the children between 8-8:20am and 3:15-3:45pm if you’d like to say a quick hello!
Last Arancia gatherings for 2017!
We have our last classroom social next Friday, December 15th from 3:15-4:15pm. Please be sure to join us for some light drinks and snacks while the children show you all the wonderful things they’ve been up to!
We will also be having a pajama day/party on Thursday, December 21st. On this day children are invited to come to school in their pajamas and in the afternoon beginning at 2pm, you (parents) are welcome to join for some fun and games! Carline will still be held at 3:15pm.
Classroom Workshop on Conflict Resolution and Community Building
We will be welcoming a seasoned Montessorian into our classroom on Tuesday and Wednesday next week to run a few activities with the children designed to improve conflict resolution and community. Maryse has been a Montessori guide for many years and is excited to share her knowledge, expertise, and wisdom with the children in our classroom!
Here is a quick bio of Maryse:
Maryse Postlewaite has been a Montessori educator since 1979 when she completed her AMI Montessori Elementary training in Bergamo, Italy. (Her undergraduate degree from Loyola University is in Elementary and Special Education.) She has taught in Montessori schools at both the lower elementary and upper elementary levels for over 15 years each. In the early 1980’s, Maryse was trained with Children’s Creative Response to Conflict and subsequently implemented the strategies in her own classes as well as leading workshops in both public and private school settings. She has been a presenter at numerous Montessori national conferences, highlighting classroom management, team building, and conflict resolution tools.
The children are in for a real treat, so be sure to ask them about their experiences next week!
Pets over break
We are looking for families willing to take the following living things over winter break:
Pip the bunny
Rocket the tarantula
Gill the frog
Starlight the beta fish
Lizzy the bearded dragon
Many lovely plants with amazing scientific names I won’t list here 🙂
Please let me know if you’re able and willing to take these living things home with you over break.
The time has come! My last day in Arancia will be Thursday, December 21st. I will be working with Aimee over the next two weeks preparing her and the children for the transition while I’m gone. I feel very grateful that the Arancia community will be in wonderful hands while I venture into “babyland,” as I say often to the children.
Thank you all for your continued support as I guide your children every day. They really are amazing individuals and will contribute so much to this world! As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me should you have any questions.
I wish you all the best as you prepare for the upcoming winter break.
All the best,
