After hurriedly setting up lunch, putting away lunchboxes, and applying sunscreen, the children of Blu rushed outside today to release the butterflies that have been emerging in the classroom.
Sitting outside in the grass, they could look up into the sky to see them fly and fly and then disappear as they got farther and farther away.
Interestingly, there were two butterflies that did not fly away. The class plans to continue feeding them in the butterfly house and Kristen may take them to her backyard eventually. One had a wing that came out looking a little wonky, and one had a wing that looked very wonky–as it it will not be able to fly. These butterflies walked on Kristen’s hand and the children looked and wondered at them. Why did this happen, we wondered.
Then, we looked at an empty chrysalis or two. It all seemed simpler and more complicated at the same time.
We hope the butterflies enjoy their freedom and many beautiful flowers in the neighborhood! They have certainly been loved.
